Birthday Boy

Today is Billy's *cough cough* birthday! While we are missing spending (another) birthday with family, we know they are thinking about him today.

Billy is the kind of guy who is easy to like, but hard to get to know. He's very approachable, but doesn't open up easily. If you get close to him, you will have a rock steady friend for life who has your back in all situations. He is a sweet and gentle soul in a warrior's body. He is smart, a fount of knowledge of all sorts, happy to provide insight and feedback when asked, but doesn't force information on you. He is my fixer, my exlainer, my steadying force. He loves with his whole self, and asks very little in return. He is selfless and considerate.

To my Billy bear, my love, my best friend-

Happy birthday to you, my love! I am so thankful to be spending another year celebrating you. I want you to know that I am so proud of you. You don't hear it enough, I am sure. Even when things are not all rainbows and roses, you have found a way to make it work, reaching for the optimism and rationalizing your way out of the dark places. Thank you for everything you have done for us. Having you by my side makes life easy. You are the single most important thing in my life. Your friendship, love and devotion is mind-blowing and so beautiful. Thank you for always making me laugh. For putting up with my sometimes irrational, often smelly, and very goofy self. I just love everything about you. You feed me when I get hangry, support my varying and far-reaching interests, and always, always make sure to cop a feel and tell me how much you love me and my assets.

Celebrating the 1st anniversary of my 28th birthday

Celebrating an anniversary of a birthday is also known as denying that I am, in fact, getting older and closer to a number that I will never label myself as. Which is why instead of getting older, I am remaining 28. 29 year-olds are "almost 30". I will not be almost 30, or 30, or 31, or 32. I will stay 28 until I hit 33. I like that number, and think it's a good age to be in your 30's. Until then, 28 it is.

28 was good. It was the year of my golden birthday {28 on the 28th}. I bought a house. I hit a record number of booked weddings for my business {45!}. I won my 3rd straight The Knot Best of Weddings award. I ran my 4th, and fastest half marathon. So yes, I am remaining this age and can't wait to see what the 1st anniversary of my 28th year brings. 

Last year, Billy wrote a guest post in which he mentioned a move away from our families. Who would think that one year later, we would be living 1,700 miles away in a different state, in a house we own.  The year before that, he wrote a birthday haxx post, too. I decided to let him off the hook this year, and write my own birthday post :-p

Billy took the day off to spend my birthday with me, which is very sweet and awesome of him. We plan on going to see a movie and grabbing a fun dinner out, then having a few of B's co-workers and friends over to watch the UFC fights. Yes, watching fights is fun to me. Maybe not the most fun thing I can think of, but pretty darn entertaining. 
I decided I would make myself a chocolate angel food cake with whipped cream and strawberries as my birthday cake. Pinterest made me do it. I mean, look at that photo. I can't promise mine will look anything like that, but it's the basis for what I want to eat. Too bad strawberries aren't in season.

A spot of tea and a birthday wish

Happy Wednesday lovelies! Hope all of you are having a great week and enjoying the new year! 

My birthday got stretched out over a three day period of celebration, so it is taking me several posts to tell you all about the festivities. Billy likes to think of October as his birthday month, so I think I can take a few days as my own. 

My much anticipated tea party happened on Saturday afternoon, and I was so blessed by my wonderful friends who joined me. I had some fun primping before my party, and dressed up in some of my cute birthday finds from Kohls that I told you all about in this post. And why yes, of course I wore a tiara! If I am actually celebrating my birthday, I get to wear a crown. Once I was dressed, I decided I had channeled Holly Golightly from Breakfast at Tiffany's and Lady Mary Crawley from Downton Abbey as my inspiration. I was good with that. 

Fact: it's fun to use different editing filters to change the way your crappy cell phone pics look. Also a fact: I edit out all of my under eye bags, wrinkles and blemishes anytime I get the chance, so you can't really tell I haven't been sleeping well the last week and am a little broken out, hah! It might be cheating, but when you have the tools at your disposal, you might as well use them, right?
 Lisa's Tea Treasures is a pretty wonderful little place, full of Victorian charm and girlish delights. My party of 12 was seated in our own room, with a long table decked out in tea finery. We were served Earl Grey and strawberry Darjeeling teas, and had sweet little tea sandwiches and scones to munch on while much conversation was had by all. 
Now, my guests did not all know each other, but you wouldn't have known that had you poked your head into our little tea room. I guess I collect friends everywhere I go, and thus have very wonderful friendships with awesome ladies who may not even know the others exist beyond a Facebook comment or photo I may post. I just so happen to collect quality friends, so it was no surprise that they were all sweet to each other, and I was so happy to see conversations going on up and down the table about all sorts of topics. I also have gorgeous friends. I tell you, it doesn't matter what they wear, or when you see them, my girlfriends are just pretty people inside and out. I am quite a lucky girl!

Nicole made me a beautiful cake with aqua frosting and pink butter cake inside. She even made little bows and drew my name in white chocolate to decorate the cake, and make chocolate cupcakes to round out the sugar rush. The cake was quite delicious, and I have to admit I ate two cupcakes later that night at home, oops!
 I don't think I even made a birthday wish! I was feeling so incredibly loved and was basking in the glow of being around my sweet friends, so it totally slipped my mind :)

I think celebrating my 28th birthday was a wise decision, and I am very happy I went through with the planning and didn't let my regular birthday funk keep me from the fun. 

I have a feeling 28 is going to be a very good year!

Birthday guest blog from B

My Beautiful Girl
“A beautiful girl can make you dizzy, like you've been drinkin' Jack and Coke all morning. She can make you feel high - full of the single greatest commodity known to man - promise. Promise of a better day. Promise of a greater hope. Promise of a new tomorrow. This particular aura can be found in the gait of a beautiful girl. In her smile, and in her soul, and the way she makes every rotten little thing about life seem like it's gonna be okay.”  That my friends, is my girl, my human sized bottle of hopes and dreams that I have the privilege of sipping from every day, and its her golden birthday! *Yay for Addy*
Through this woman’s love, I am able to extract immeasurable amounts of strength and courage. When I have a rough day and really feel like grabbing a customer by their hair and smacking their face on/through the counter I take a breath, think of her, and maybe not calm down, but summon the courage to eat my anger and get through the situation with requisite fake smile. Recently, she has given me the strength to do what I never thought I’d do: Leave. Everything.
You see, I love my family. I feel like I am in the vast minority in this country where my family actually gets along and really like each other. We’ve been married over 5 years now and I still get all homesick if I don’t get to see my folks every week. The thought of not seeing them, or being more than a day trip away from them almost makes me ill. These feelings do however conflict with 2 things: 1: my urge to provide the best life possible for her and 2: my manological clock (yes you can use that).
My manological clock is ticking hard  for one thing right now (2 if you count a supercharger for my little pony), and that is to buy a real house by the time I hit 35, and not a glorified apartment either. I want a place where nobody can tell me what to do, how to decorate, or to have some courtesy because of shared walls. 35 because home loans usually last 30 years, and I don’t want to be working full time into my 70ies. The harsh reality is that isn’t very possible here in CA unless we both double our incomes in the next few years. The alternative is leaving.
I recently applied for a Manager position in Texas with my company. Not only is it a significant pay increase, but the cost of living out there is roughly 40% less. On my salary alone we could pay less on a nice house than we do for rent, and she could be the little trophy wife she has always wanted to be. I really nailed my phone interview, and really got a great vibe off the managers out there, unfortunately, my company is more about rewarding those who have put in time than those who are actually good at what they do, so I’m doubtful it will pan out, but who knows. Pray for us.
In the short time we’ve really had to think about it I’ve really run through the gambit of emotions. When I first saw the post my palms got sweaty, heart started thumping. I knew I could do it but I’d miss my family. I don’t want to end up a stranger to my nephew, but the more I look at and sip on my little hope cocktail, the more confident I am that I can do this for us. I’m finally feeling a little tug on my heart strings that I’ve always credited with being God’s guidance which was missing just a few days ago. I just pray now that we can get the chance, and if it doesn’t pan out, there is always Jack and Coke..err umm...other positions. Happy Birthday hun.

What I'm loving Wednesday

Well hello there, blog loves! Joining the party for WILW and letting you in on my current faves are.
1. I'm loving that I am not completely hating that my birthday is 23 days away. That would be December 28th, if you are anything like me and have trouble with simple math.
*I have a theory that I have replaced all of my math skills with useless information and pop culture references, but I was never really into numbers to begin with. I digress.*
I usually stop talking about my birthday once December hits, then get more and more reclusive and anti-social as it draws nearer. By the time my birthday rolls around, I am in an all out funk and want nothing to do with getting older, which is exactly what birthdays celebrate. Anyone else feel me on this? This year I am planning a sweet tea party at one of my favorite places, Lisa's Tea Treasures, and inviting a bunch of girlfriends to play dress up and drink tea with me. I never said I had to embrace getting older, so I am turning to the fun of my youth to celebrate another year! I have a cake picked out for my birthday, here let me show you! Isn't it perfect?!
2. I am loving little miss Sadie girl! She is such a joy, a total shadow, a snugly little thing, and the best running buddy. Her only downside it seems is her obsession with cat poop. Gross.
Here is where I would post a photo of Sadie, but it seems I have reached my max storage capacity for uploaded photos, and I don't have all my photos uploaded to a third party site right now :( Seriously Google/Blogger/Picasa, get it together. What am I supposed to do, go through my blog posts and remove all uploaded photos from the past two years to make room for new ones? Deleting folders from my Picasa account didn't have any affect on the storage issue. I do not want to buy more space, either, humph. Oops I ranted.

3. I am loving that I found a tea party dress for my birthday! And accessories! And a fascinator headband thing! Oh, and all at Kohl's of all places. Did not see that coming. Wanna see? The dress is by Speechless, black lace with a dropped waist, ribbon accent, and chiffon sort of skirt. Very 20's! The necklace is Jennifer Lopez, and looks a little like the one below, but with clear and black stones in varying lengths. Billy said it looked like bird poop when he first saw a photo of it, but recanted and said it pulled the outfit together once he saw it in person. Right. The earrings are Apt. 9, and are the same color as the necklace, so that picture should give you a better idea. Oh, and the fascinator? Totally fun! It's a headband with a little hat like thing on the side that is navy blue with black Swiss dotted netting, and has fur, feathers and gemstone adornments. Funny how I had the idea that I would end up with some sort of gold in my outfit because it's my golden birthday, but there will be none now! Picking a dress

Hello my dears! Hope your hump day is treating you well. 

I have a fun post for you today, I want you to help me chose a birthday dress for my tea party! So far the dresses below are my 6 favorites from ModCloth. When I stumble upon some more I love{within a reasonable price range} I will share them also.

Happy birthday Cassie!

Happy 25th birthday to Cassie!

Cassie and I go waaaay back. I met Cassie when I was a senior and she a freshman in high school at the church we both attended. I had the awesome privilege to be in a small group with her, and then be her counselor and watch her be a small group leader once I was out of high school. This girl is amazing. She is athletic, charismatic, completely selfless, a super sweetheart, a fast and true friend, a serious Christ follower, and now a sweet wifey to her hubby Bart. 
Even though I am older than Cassie, I look up to her in so many ways. I am fascinated with her documentation of her date nights and tasty Tuesdays on her blog, I'm in awe of the grasp she has on life, heartened by how she perseveres through challenges, and I admire the ways she seeks Jesus in every aspect of her life. 

Happy birthday to you Cassie, may everything be wonderful today and always!

Happy 30th Birthday, Baby!

Happy 30th birthday to my beloved Billy! Happy golden birthday, at that!
Dear Billy, today you are 30! I know there were some phantom old age pains you experienced yesterday, and you truly think you are now old, but age is nothing but a number my love. You are still the most beautiful person I know, the most caring man, the gentlest soul, and the best comic relief I can ask for when I'm feeling down. 
Billy, you are my best friend. You make me laugh with your silly jokes and your own versions of popular songs that always turn out dirty. You also took it upon yourself to corrupt our nephew Tyler, who now says inappropriate things on demand. We still think it's funny, and so do his parents even if they don't want to admit it. 
I am so glad I found you and now get to spend the rest of my life with you! I can't wait to celebrate many more birthdays to come. Here's to 70+ more birthdays!

Lexie's golden birthday

One of my best friends celebrated her golden birthday recently!
I took this of Lexie after her last haircut, she needed new head shots ;)

Lexie turned 27 on the 27th of August, and decided to throw a little costume party to celebrate. What's a costume party without a theme, am I right? Lexie chose to make her birthday a Harry Potter themed party{!!!}, and I couldn't have been happier. I do love some Harry Potter, and any excuse to get dressed up is good by me.
Instead of donning a traditional Hogwarts robe and going as a student, I went out of my way to find Billy and I fun costumes. We went as Luna Lovegood and Hagrid! Billy even had one of Sadie's dog toys, a skunk, pinned to his belt as a pelt lol
 Lexie was the Golden Snitch, because it was her golden birthday after all.
There were a ton of Hogwarts students, and Harry Potter wannabes. Want to see who attended?
Lexie's mom Moira, and Dad Roark, came as Professor Trelawny and Mad Eye Moody!
Her sister Katie was Bellatrix Lestrange, and Katie's fiance Dan was a young Tom Riddle
Mr. Weasley dressed as a muggle showed up along with Professor Dumbledor
A super cute house elf showed up with a wand and clothes, she was pretty powerful
Things got a little weird when Batman showed up. I'm not sure he was at the right party.
We had a fun happy sock contest, enjoyed Pinterest orange mold Jell-o shots, and then played Harry Potter Scene It, which was super hard with the party noise going on.
I even made Butterbeer cupcakes using this recipe. They turned out so incredibly yummy! Don't be fooled by my lackluster presentation, I haven't perfected the piped frosting trick yet, so they look less awesome than they tasted.
I'm so happy I was able to celebrate with you Lexie!
