The great pumpkin patch trip

A trip to the pumpkin patch is practically a rite of autumn. However, when you don't have kids, making that trip can be, well a little silly and maybe even frowned upon. It's like trick-o-treating without kids. You ever tried it? I had to stop in high school, even though I didn't want to.

Thank goodness my sister-in-law, Angelica, and nephew, Tyler are visiting this week. I got to play the role of tour guide and activity planner extraordinaire by taking them to Sweet Berry Farm in Marble Falls. I even went so far as to enlist the help of my fabulous co-worker Samantha and her son Sawyer to enjoy in the fun. Too bad I picked the warmest day of the week so far, and we ended up sweating our buns off while we walked around. I count that as a workout as well as a fun trip.
The first thing we did was make a visit to the Candy Cornfield Maze where the boys ran through and rang the bell in the center. I gotta tell you, corn mazes are super fun, but they are just a tad creepy. I can't even imagine how terrifying it could be to get lost inside one and keep making wrong turns. We safely left the corn maze and had fun making silly faces in the cut-outs scattered around the patch. We even bought little bits of food to feed the goats. We took a trip through some cute arbors that had hanging gourds and vines growing on them, and through a corrugated metal tunnel under the road to get to the other part of the farm for a hayride. The boys were having a great time together, and definitely had an outlet for their (never ending) energy.
Of course, I had my camera on hand to take advantage of the many photo ops. Can you really visit a pumpkin patch without posing with pumpkins or on the many antique trucks filled with pumpkins? I thought not. Now, please explain to me something. I'm not super up on commonly used vernacular of today's youth, but I read a lot of Buzzfeed articles, and have noticed the term "basic" being thrown around, and used with a negative connotation. One article even went so far as to highlight the many ways in which "basic white girls" celebrate fall. Visiting a pumpkin patch was high on the list.
Does that make me basic? haha
If you are wondering about Tyler's hands in that bottom right photo above, I've been encouraging him to make the UT "hook 'em horns" hand gesture any chance he gets, to go along with his new UT t-shirts he is so proud to wear. We are grooming him to want to be a doctor and go to a great school, like UT! Billy and I chose UT as our adopted school when we moved to Austin, since it's mandatory to care about football here. I may not care, but if someone asks, I like University of Texas at Austin!
Look at that unintentional wink. Lady killer, this one. I just love him to pieces.
